Engelbert Humperdinck/ East of Eli / Anduze/ Recording artist
Discovered by Phil Collins at the young age of 14 in his native Switzerland, Johann Frank performed alongside many world-renown artists such as Mr. Collins, Mike Rutherford (“Genesis”), Steve Howe (“Yes”), The Pretty Things, MC Solaar and others before the age of 18. Johann also had the honor to open for artists such as Lionel Richie, Barbara Hendricks and Tina Turner in some of Europe’s most prestigious venues (Montreux Jazz Festival, MIDEM, Tourbillon Stadium, AVO Festival) before being sent to Berklee College of Music on a scholarship program. He earned his B.A. degree in Music Business in less than two years before heading to Los Angeles in 2008.
Once in LA, Johann quickly got studio and performance work with acclaimed acts such as Philip Bailey (“Earth Wind and Fire”), Steve Winwood, Arthur Adams, Al B Sure, Marconi, Sylvester Rivers, Ray Parker Jr. and Mitchel Musso. In 2011, Johann was asked to join the touring band of Engelbert Humperdinck. Initially hired as the lead guitarist, he also became involved with musical direction, arrangements and recording sessions for the legendary singer. He recorded guitars on Engelbert’s duet albums “Engelbert Calling” (released in March 2014) alongside the likes of Willie Nelson, Elton John, Gene Simmons and Smokey Robinson.
When he is not on the road, Johann records guitars, bass, mandolin, Ukulele and Oud for several film score composers (Richard Gibbs, Lucas Vidal, Elik Alvarez, Chris Bacon) for U.S. and international film productions; you can hear him on "Being Charlie" (Rob Reiner's 2015 drama), Latin America blockbuster Papita Maní Tostón (2013), The Boat Builder (2015, starring Christopher Lloyd), etc. He is also in high demand for co-writing, producing and recording sessions in Los Angeles, Nashville, New York and London, where he recently recorded on Lulu Gainsbourg’s latest album "Lady Luck".
He is currently on tour for Engelbert's 50th Anniversary tour with dates on every continent, as well as with breakthrough artist East of Eli as Music Director.
"Hotone is a step ahead of many market leaders by having understood how valuable space and weight is on a pedalboard. Not only do they pack amazing tone in very small packages, but they go the extra mile by adding a tweak, a boost or another smart bonus feature on all their products."
